State of The Fur Den ---Please Read---

Before I start I would like to take this time to honor White Fox aka John as he has lost his battle to cancer. I didn't know him personally, but from the people I've spoken with he was a great guy, and always a pleasure to deal with on here. He has handed over the keys so to speak to me to manage the website, and I do not intend on letting him down.

So a little about myself.

I'm 29 years old from South Carolina. I've enjoyed fur since I was a toddler partly due to my mother using a white fox to basically blanket me, and keep me warm. It grew from there obviously, but I've always had an appreciation of it. I was around in the NTCweb days as a lurker mainly because I was underage, and watched FFG rise, and fall. I met Dragon long before the Cookie/Dragon business deal, and split. I still talk to him now, and then. Anyway - I've been through the ups, and downs of the fur community with all the websites coming, and going - I was a major thorn in 2DYE4's butt for a bit until he banned me when Cookie went MIA. I have a background in computer, and electronic engineering aside from being on a computer since the age of 2. I've been through the early internet creating crappy sites to helping manage phpBB boards, and gaming websites. Yes I'm a huge gamer, but that's another thread.

2DYE if you're reading - I understand your situation on FFG, and I apologize for being a dbag to you - but you were kind of a dick too. <3

I want to do everything to keep this going, but also I want to be realistic. Expenses are an issue for us...

Donations are key to help keep the site going, and without them the website WILL die. Special thanks to everyone who has donated thus far, and a special thank you to CoyoteMink for his big donations. We appreciate it very much.

Anyway - on to my rough plans. By the way - EVERYTHING I do will be passed to AK for his approval/opinion. He knows John better than me, and what he would want. I'm doing this for him.

I intend on fully revamping the site. Main page, forum styles, banners, chat, etc. On the technical side - I want to crack open the gallery to backup photos so that I can move it to something easier to manage, and is more user friendly forum side as far as embedding photos from the gallery without img code, or being able to just copy code from the gallery, and it seamlessly work in the forum.

Would like to bring in more non-porn related topics.. Not everyone is on the fetish side of fur, and has an appreciation for it without making it sexual. I want to be able to cater to these people too.

On the other side... I want to get our fur models in on the site too. Eva, Mistress Furs, xratedwife, etc I will not however have links to paid content without some sort of agreement. Free content is one thing.. Using us for free advertisement is another. So as long as there's free stuff - we're solid.

I want the forum to have more plugins/mods/abilities. Embedding from other sites (youtube, xhamster for the pornside, vimeo, etc) and more options as far as customization goes. I've seen php based chats that have video/file sharing abilities as well. I think integrating something like that would give us an edge over say fourrureclub though we can't really compare to them as they are a french site with a single english thread. I've talked to Matt (owner of FC), and we hopefully will have a nice friendship going soon to link back, and forth to the each site.

I want the entire site to be more mobile friendly. Android, and iOS - phones, and tablets. Ability to use programs like tapatalk, etc.

Would personally like to downsize, or break up the gallery. Space costs money, and without donations that will be a problem. Which brings me to another topic. Advertisements. I know it's something a lot of people hate, but they pay, and the right setup could make the site money. While I don't think it will bother most people.. the others can just install an ad blocker.

Last thing I'd like to touch on is moderators. We have a lot of names listed, but I never see anyone but punisher. I'm not going to keep names up there of people who are supposed to be helping, and don't. So far it's been all AK, and John that I've seen personally. I'd like for that to change. We may open that for an opening for help, but so far it's ok.

I'm 1000% open to opinions, suggestions, criticism, complaints, f yous, etc. If there is no interest in keeping the site alive then we can visit letting it go when the prepaid time runs out. I don't want to put my heart into something that no one gives two craps about.

Thanks guys, and gals.

if we can nurture forum with advertising, I think it's just running on.

but the advertisement would rather have something with fur to do

I think neoJaguar agrees with me that fur related advertisements are definitely preferable, but it will be very difficult to find enough fur advertisers. Thus it will probably be necessary to include other advertising.

I have no problem with it.

certain it is the only resort to keep the forum alive

some you do not like advertising as there are for solving it in Diff Software

I think the first thing I will say is that Im sorry to hear of Whitefox's loss to cancer & my sympathies go to those on this site that knew him well & counted him as a friend.

I'll comment on the rest later

agreed!

In this short time i been on this site,i feel that he is very fair and warm person.

But cancer don't care about that,it's just brutal.

I wish Neo good luck in the future and do my best to fill it with content.

Wow...

I kinda' knew John from being a long-time member here (and ex-mod). It's sad to see him go. He was a kind soul, and a rare breed.

Condolences to those that knew him a lot better than I did. May he rest in peace.

Firstly, that's such unfortunate news for the loss of Fox. I think I maybe communicated a couple of times with him here when the FFG migration/exodus begun and it was a case of him throwing out the welcome mat. It actually made me wonder why I hadn't found this place earlier...

Anyway if there are any considerations for mods going, I'm happy to stick my hand up. I do come on here daily and was a chat mod also on FFG for a couple of years

Deepest condolences to all who knew and loved WhiteFox, he was an important part of this community.

I think the changes neoJaguar mentioned are in his spirit.

Talking about changes: is there any possibility to donate bitcoins?

Grow it slowly would be my advice, there has been an influx of folk of late & no doubt many are still settling down. it takes a while.

Its maybe not about moderators but about contributors & from there maybe some of those contributors could (In-time) step-up / be invited to become moderators & help to focus the direction of the forum(s) & it's contents. To date there doesn't seem ? to be a lot of direction / encouragement / postings from your existing moderation team as a whole (which you have recognised) - How about before wholesale changes are made (or considered) a sub-group of prolific posters are brought together & there advice / thoughts are harnessed to direct the group or even just be a sounding board as it's those posters that are keeping the forums going currently.

zb - AKCoyote would be the one to answer that one.. I think you can pay with bitcoins via paypal, but I'm not certain.

Id be lying - I welcome everyone to give their ideas for the new era of the fur den.. I don't want to have a too many chiefs and not enough Indians deal around here so moderators will be chosen carefully with major discretion from AK himself as he was closest to WF.

ozfurlova - I've seen you around a lot, and would welcome to chat with you via PM about becoming a mod. It would be very much appreciated.

My comment / suggestions is more about the Chiefs giving the Indians some direction.

For me moderating is primarily about cultivating a site / forums & getting interest going & gathering / enticing posters rather than policing it. I think get that sorted & you will see folk starting to post more & the site evolve.

I'm in no-way pitching for a role either, Im jus a roaming fur fetishist who has come back into town for a look-see offering some observations.

Good luck in your new role.

Not yet, but it is under consideration. PayPal does NOT handle bitcoin transactions at this time.

Shouldn't that be the indians giving the chiefs some direction

Struth Ruth..... Come from watching the Wallabies losing the World Cup to the Kiwis and the first line of the first article I read states that WhiteFox has been bowled over by that dastardly villain called cancer. My thoughts and condolences go to his family and friends, both here and in RL.

John and I exchanged a few emails usually about me losing a password LOL after a computer rebuild, along with being a mod with him when we first started (or thereabouts). The image of him in the white fox coat always made me think that Santa was wrong adding the red wool to his outfit. Those who knew him better will probably get the connection, as it is an insiders joke.

Congrats Neo on your appointment, and good luck juggling the demands that will come your way.

Now, as for ideas, Make the changes slowly and allow folks to adjust to them. As AK noted, listen to the Indians and adjust/modify as seen fit. And do I have any suggestions? well, not really at this stage as from being a regular four years ago have sorta slipped into a more "let's see what's on" type of visitor. What you have suggested all makes sense, and may you have the knowledge and patience to get phpBB to work to your desires.

Change is always a constant, even if you don't want it. I am deeply saddened with the passing of John. He was a cool headed person, prepared to listen to ideas and ease people from the outskirts of furdom into the mainstream.

I congratulate Neo on moving into some big furry shoes, and I like his ideas, but as always the changes you want to make might not be everybody's cup of tea. Ultimately it is about this site being available (so new fur fans can find it), it needs to promote fur use (in all its many ways), and it needs to be fiscally responsible to keep up and running.

As to being a 'moderator', I am happy to come off that list as my time here gets more restricted as the days progress, I just don't have the time anymore.

Change is here, may it be progressive, forward, and in strength, and that we all applaud and help the new 'boss' . WF - RIP
