Your favourite fur for a bath robe

Regarding a 'bath robe', for me it would have to be a white or brown mink. Many years ago, Emba produced a floor length wrap robe in Jasmine mink. Or alternatively, it would be a brown mink . For two examples see the pictures I have placed in the Gallery.

Hope you like them!

You mean these beautiful pics

and indeed I like them! Thanks.

But I'd prefer fur on the inside. After you towel off, there is nothing better for your skin than the tender sense of fur.

Out of 3 posts I recognize a tendency for mink. Some other oppinion? And which kind of mink? Color? Trim? Lining?

A thick fur collar seems great. For the style and for your skin.

For a non-native english speaker bath robe = dressing gown.

i'd go for mink, dark brown. huge collar that could be used as hood, large belt and big buttons for closure, and big pocket and cuffs, floor length. dunno about lining, maybe dark brown or red silk satin.

I think I might want coyote.

However the idea of a fox robe is also interesting.

This topic is showing proof that while we are all "fur enthusiasts" to one degree or another. we each have our individual preferences.

Have tried NUMEROUS times to have a silk kimono type robe be trimmed with fox all over it. Believe it or not I've been turned down by half a dozen furriers or so who say they won't do it.

Yep. And we can benefit from each others ideas.

First I prefered a sheared mink, preferably dark and long. I didn't think about the details that much, now a huge collar and big pockets seem like a must to me.

I also like the idea of something very soft, like chinchilla or fox.

I believe you, but not the furriers. There are so many fur lined parkas out there, so why don't they try?

It may have to do with the fabric - they may not want to work with silk which can be delicate and easily damaged. Or it could be he has not talked to a true manufacturing furrier. Many "furriers" these days are merely fur retailers and not experienced with fur manufacturing techniques.

Just my $.02 worth of speculation.

I would give you 1 $ for that speculation. The number of furriers is declining; the furrier in our town closed last year. Anyway, if you're willing to spend 10k+ for a chinchilla robe, you're also willing to travel some 100 miles.

Wait, did I mention 10k+? ... ehhhm ...

Authentic silk kimonos are affordable if you buy them straight from Japan. I was able to get a great deal without spending as much as you think. I tried telling furriers just a fox collar and cuffs but all said no.

An earlier poster was right about them just being retailers now. There is none true craftsmanship in this country anymore and they extends beyond furriers, but I digress.

I'm still waiting for a chinchilla-lined robe with huge cuffs and pockets. While waiting (maybe for years) I'll enjoy my sheared mink robe.

Do you own and enjoy your favourite robe? Or "just" some "compromise"?

I'd LOVE a chinchilla-lined robe! That would be heavenly!
