Crazy Japanese Game Shows

They have some great ones on G4TV Worker if you ever get a chance to see them. The best part is they do not do voice overs and just subtitle the Japanese "play by play' guy.

That was a good clip! I've checked out what's on G4 TV before as well, those are ok at best. The best ones I don't know if they will show up here in the U.S. due to content and censorship but there are some 'really good shows' back in Japan. I remember 'several' that were just as funny as the clip you shared.

G4TV looks great from their website but, alas, I don't have cable TV. That's just another bill I don't want to have to pay. I get most of my entertainment from the internet instead.

This was my favorite game show clip from Japan until the other one came along:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UlAkOhH9eek

Six guys have to stand in front of a large spring-loaded paddle and say a tongue twister in Japanese. If they get it wrong, they release the paddle and the guy gets hit in the nuts!

I actually used to watch that show when I was in Japan. The last contestant is actually the shows co-host! Stunts like that or 'games' were pretty common on the show..

I couldn't figure out why he was the only one pleading for mercy. So he was probably playing a part, then. Eh? That would be out of character for the traditional "Persevere at all cost", Japanese attitude.

I never thought you could train a dog to sit still that long... not even a Shiba.

(Shiba are very popular Japanese house dogs bred especially because they can be trained to live in apartments, etc.)

But what was really funny was how they got a chimp to sit still while his human built a castle of bananas all around him!

I just don't understand Japanese well enough to pick that up from the clip.

I only know enough to say "Please", "Thank you" and "Where is the bathroom?"

Normally, to show fear in the face of danger is frowned upon but, if it's being played for comedy, it flies.

There are 'a lot' of really funny and even some soft-erotica that is aired as public TV there. Obviously though, the latter is played late at night.
