firstfur
The Times article was such a welcome sight, but the writer seems to want to walk a tightrope between men loving and endorsing fur without reservation, and the more timid and familiar position that if men are wearing it it must be okay as long as there isn't TOO MUCH fur. The article is accompanied by lots of photos of men wearing fur accessories, but no one is in a full-blown coat (at least with fur on the outside). The prices quoted on the accessories practically guarantee--if you believe that those are your only options--that most men could bankrupt themselves with a couple of fur hats. Too bad the article didn't direct men to real fur alternatives that are far far cheaper and thus more likely to serve as real inspiration to men who have yet to break the fur barrier. As for me, tomorrow (Tuesday) and Wednesday Adrienne Landau is having her final sale of the season with items up to 90% off. If anyone reading this is near or in NYC, 519 Eighth Ave., 21st floor, is definitely the place to be. Two weeks ago, thinking that it was their last sale of the season, I bought 4 fur scarves and a sumptuous cocoa colored rabbit blanket and had to stop at that before getting totally carried away. All bets are off for the sale this time around, since the prices are clearly far lower than they were two weeks ago. What's a fur lover to do??!! Happy Holidays everyone! foxkid
Now if this could transfer/apply to the UK I'd be very happy.

FurLoverinFL
Question firstfur, does rabbit make a good blanket? I've always thought of rabbit as a fairly delicate fur that would not be able to stand up to regular use like that. FLinFL
firstfur
To answer your question, I think it depends on the quality of the rabbit fur. My rabbit blankets don't shed a drop--and are not rex rabbit, either. The first blanket I bought, which is now in its third winter, has a couple of small tears (probably from being tugged during the night--it's only 4 ft wide so when the two of us try to share it sometimes it gets to be a "tug o' fur" so to speak. Today I arrived at the Adrienne Landau sale just when they first opened and was surprised to see more than 20 blankets of many kinds (sorry, fox fans....no fox blankets in sight). I can't believe that with all the choices (many knitted rabbit ones and quite a few rex ones) I still went home with a spectacular chocolate brown full skin rabbit blanket....very thick and lovely for rabbit, with subtle black streaks going the length of the blanket. For extra styling it has drawstring pulls that gather the fur on the ends in three places....a kind of unusual treatment. I just saw them, on one hand, as superfluous and on the other hand began to think there might be some more creative uses for those pulls.... I think as far as delicacy is concerned, blankets like the ones I have, if cared for properly, will last for at least 5 years. The cashmere backing makes them particularly toasty and highlights the plushness of the fur. I'm very afraid I will end up going back there tomorrow to see what's left and if they reduce the prices even further. Oh the perils of living in NYC! Also bought a long knitted rabbit navy blue scarf/neckpiece that is one continuous (and pretty wide) fur piece that can be wrapped twice around the neck and still hangs down like a thick cowl neck.....pretty yummy. Finally (for $50) a red fox hat that is a rather unusual flat style, coming as it does when opened up and worn, to two gentle points (barely noticeable as points). Would be a great gift for your partner......hmmmmm. Sorry to carry on so excitedly but I'm desperately trying to justify this crazy spending. New Year's resolutions never work for me, but this year..... Oh well....have a wonderful and very furry holiday season and the softest new year ever! foxkid
Wore my Mink lined Carhart today. I wear fur every day. OFF Ditto, I nearly always have a trooper hat or fur lined coat on in the winter. On the odd occasions (when I've felt more daring) I have started wearing a my rex rabbit, mink bomber fur side out along with my fox coat(seen in current avatar) when in London or away from home. I really hope some places in the UK start stocking more mens furs like the rabbit lined hoodies that have recently become so popular. These are great "gateway furs" imo, as I'm sure it will pave the way to better things to come.
