Nexii Posted May 14 Posted May 14 I seem to recall watching a show (might have been something filmed in the 70s or so) that took place at a hotel lobby. It was a very long scene that had a lot of real fur coats that guests had or brought in. It had a lot of comedy and they talked about the coats. Anyone know what that might have been?
shyfurwriter Posted May 14 Posted May 14 There was a TV series called HOTEL in the 80's. I used to watch it as furs were common.
Nexii Posted May 14 Author Posted May 14 Yea what I mean is like, it wasn't just a guest coming in with a fur coat. Like they were central to the skit. It wasn't a brief thing - it sticks in my mind because usually it's very brief in most movies/shows. This was like the point of it
minkme Posted May 14 Posted May 14 "Hotel" from wiki: Based on Arthur Hailey's 1965 novel of the same name (which had also inspired a 1967 feature film), the series was produced by Aaron Spelling and set in the elegant and fictitious St. Gregory Hotel in San Francisco (changed from the New Orleans setting of the novel and film). Establishing shots of the hotel were filmed in front of the Fairmont San Francisco atop the Nob Hill neighborhood. Some interiors for the pilot episode were also filmed inside the Fairmont; when the series was picked up, a three-quarter-scale replica of the lobby was built at Warner Bros. Studios Burbank Some of the episodes are on youtube. I just saw one featuring Shirley Jones wearing a black full length mink coat riding on the outside of a cable car going up Nob Hill. l
SimonG Posted May 15 Posted May 15 (edited) Yeah, Hotel had a shed load of episodes featuring Fur. Just like any prime time soap which was Essential Fur Viewing, like Dallas, Dynasty, etc, Hotel would occasionally show off a glamorous actress or two draped in Fur. One episode became particularly memorable because a Furrier had chosen the St Gregory to showcase its latest collection. There were about a dozen or so models/extras parading around the hotel's lobby and up & down the staircase wearing various Furs. It was a teenage Fur Fetishist's wet dream! However, this was NOT a series known for it's comedy. Maybe the odd line of dialogue here and there, but nothing laugh out loud. The Fourrures Passion Youtube channel has covered the series extensively, it's got 106 instances where Fur appeared! https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLP1UA9ghAme-T5ZNJM-0gZn2RUmGkH8Vd&si=2an7KxmA2yGSekMp The Fur Market episode is #77, and the one @minkme mentioned is #03. I still have no idea what series @Nexii is talking about! Edited May 15 by SimonG 4
Nexii Posted May 15 Author Posted May 15 Yea not Hotel, that seems more like a drama. This show was more of British comedy
minkme Posted May 15 Posted May 15 Here is their matchbook cover. See the pictures of ladies wearing their fur stole? Presidents of the United States used to stay at the Fairmont Hotel of San Francisco

There was one episode with the American/Scottish couple where the lady was wearing a white mink coat. She was played by a Scottish actress called Claire Nielsen who died recently. I think it was called the Waldorf Salad episode from the second series.
SimonG Posted May 22 Posted May 22 Ah, you could well be right, dongleboy. I usually avoid that episode because her husband, played by Bruce Boa, comes across as obnoxious & annoying as it's possible for an American to get!
