I just saw a couple of videos on Tik Tok and Instagram showing people covering their fur coats with snow.  They will put their coats in the snow, then shovel snow over them leaving the snow on  the coat for hours.  The posters claim that this is the natural way to clean a fur like what the animals do.

Has anyone here tried this snow cleaning method? Is this practice even safe for the furs?

There was an article about cleaning sweaters in cold, fresh snow. It seems like a good idea for furs, too.

I haven't heard of the method yet especially for "cleaning." At least, I don't think the fur will be damaged, if you dry it properly afterwards (just hang it inside openly in your living room, no heat).

Coldness is a valid method to get rid of house dust mites—if it's cold enough. The mites can't stand temperatures below -10° C or so. So, if you put them into the freezer (or cold air outside) for some time, the mites will die and later fall out of the garment. Recommendation is at least -12° C for 12 hours, up to 48 hours. Snow is also insulating, therefore it has to be really cold for the effect.

Just be mindful of the leather underneath the fur because if it absorbs too much moisture it will fall apart. Ideally you want to keep your garments cool at an ideal temperature of 50° with 50% humidity

I have done this multiple times when I go to Finland each February. Fresh snow, below -10°C. Works very well. A walk in a snow storm is almost as good.
