CoyoteFox Posted March 9 Posted March 9 In past years before "Mob Wife" and this current fur resurgence, Mid-March represented the beginning of FUR BUYING SEASON... Sellers didn't sell over the Winter season, and they begin to entertain low-ball offer. This past Summer, I didn't see the sharp discounting in the vintage fur market that we're used to seeing... Prices stayed quite high. Curious to hear everyone's experience dealing with sellers who don't know fur coat pricing or the demand. My best purchase this year was listed for $1,300 on Ebay, and I negotiated down to about $300 including shipping... I pulled that off in October, and I doubt the coat would have been that low ever again if I didnt buy then! Where do you see this all going this Summer? Liquidation and lower prices, or specialized collector's market with high prices? 3
WinnipegFur Posted March 14 Posted March 14 Its a hit n miss here in Winnipeg on marketplace... not as many listings on kijiji anymore... there's been a few nice coats pop up on marketplace, but the prices have not budged... Im currently looking at a full length coyote on market place.. she was asking $1000, now she's down to $600.. I still think thats rather high for a 25+ year old coat, even though she claims its been stored and reglazed etc... Im not really believing that as there is only one furrier left around here that would even do that... it was probably done years ago and now its sat in a closet.. she said she is selling for a friend who stored it every year, and wore it sparingly because of her casual lifestyle... The Bay fur salon downtown also closed several years ago before the actual department store closed... they moved the fur salon to the Bay at Polo Park mall, but even all that turned out to be was a small room at the very back of the womens clothing area.. you wouldnt even know a fur salon was there unless you intentionally went looking for it... From what I recall teh woman told me that any fur storage/repairs were actually sent to a furrier in Edmonton.. that fur salon also closed right out probably 4-5 years ago as well prior to the bay closing shop... 2
Efferus33 Posted March 15 Posted March 15 I am more interested in newer styles and I was happy to find a few. However for those sellers tend to be really unwilling to bring the prices down, it's really hard to negotiate. I found a really nice layered mink and asked for the brand and the seller gave me the skin auction house name... I thought that couldn't be a mistake because the seller also had other fur coats and thus couldn't ignore the difference btw brand & auction house. So I put the image of the coat on google image, it found that this seller had another account (we could see the seller's furniture at the back so that helped google a lot to look for similarities). I found that on that second account the seller had tried to sell another fur coat from a greek brand so I googled that brand name. And guess what I found? In that brand what looked to be the same layered mink coat I initially found sold at around the same price as what the seller was asking for a new one (actually less because there was a spring discount). So that meant the seller was trying to sell the coat at the exact price they got it.... I still don't know why they have 2 accounts tho since both have good reviews. Still, I think those are 2nd hand coats because they are all the same size.
pnwhist Posted 2 hours ago Posted 2 hours ago A video on YouTube that I’ve never seen about buying a fur: https://youtu.be/AxeTXvuTiis?si=jYdDyHint7fIJbWh 1
