Anyone been out there yet!

Temps are starting to fluctuate here a bit... but highs are still hitting into the high teens/low 20 celcius mark... mornings have been single digit lows... the last 2 nights have been cool.. last night was +4 and right now its +3, but feels like +1.. I was out in the backyard in full length mink the last few early morning... I think its time to go out in raccoon while its still cool out there!! Not cold enough for a walk in my opinion, and might get some comments mid September LOL  Hopefully in a month will start seeing something on the minus side early morning..

 

Sadly.. too warm for raccoon... definately not +1 at my place in the backyard.. more like 7.. but it was nice to see the sun shine on the fur again and show all the true colors...

Still a wee bit warm here in Scotland although it is getting cooler at night.  I reckon another month yet…

Took a few of my coats in for some minor repairs to the furrier.. they had some used coats on the rack, but I was in too much of a hurry to try anything on and get a price... they had a nice coyote jacket and a hooded raccoon jacket on the rack.. unfortunately the sleeves on both looked way to short for me..  I might call tomorrow and see what they are asking for them, and if I get a chance try them on when I pick mine up next week..

I did end up calling about the coyote.. she said they would sell it for a couple of hundred dollars, but she said she thought it was a smaller narrower size , maybe an 8-10 at best (which I did note when it was on the rack) Im pretty skinny as it is, but the arms did look rather short unfortunately... she said I was free to take a better look when I pick up my other coats..  +5 here right now.. morning temps are consistently like that now, but highs are still getting into the low 20s , and one day this week is calling for 24..  Ill take a few more days of summer, but I don't like seeing those temps when Im stuck in work all day... grrrr

Temps are still hovering around the 60’s and 70’s so still too early for furs. I have been th About taking mine out of storage though. I’ll probably do that within the next couple of weeks

I thought it was kind of cooling off here, nope... going back to 25C here Friday apparently.. almost 10 above normal for this time of year.. temps return to normal after that which are still mid teens and single digits above 0.. Im suspecting that will be our last really warm shot for the year..  this el nino thing sure lines up to wrecking fur coat/ski season where I am...

Once winter sets in, we should still be seeing some pretty nasty weather that borders on unpredictable, just like it did in the summer months and that’s the major point of concern that meteorologists have been sounding the alarm over. It’s not if the weather will be cold or warm, it’s whether or not this pattern will continue to bring about catastrophic weather events. So yeah I’m expecting around the clock derecho’s and blizzards and a few bombogenesis events and maybe even more tornadoes and atmospheric lightning

Very true... I see a +1 overnight low in a few weeks on the long term, but highs still shooting into the mid teens..

+1 is still a little warm for me, but might be able to mink it.. nothing looks even remotely coolish here until November..

Looks like my old saying stands.. fur coat in the morning..short and a t shirt for afternoon...

Got my coats back today... the coyote I was looking at would have been way to small.... the owners daugter who is a solid foot smaller than me put it on and although the length was OK, the arm length would have been way to short... all the other coats they had were too small.... I kind of mentioned my mom might be looking for a jacket and she literally said if theres anything you want to take home and bring back you're free too... you've been in here enough times... very nice of them...

You should take her up on the free take home trials? Maybe for a couple of cold days for your walks?

Id love to, but everything they have is rather small... I was totally ready to buy the coyote, but in all honesty, the sleeves would have ended a good 3 inches from my wrists... they had a hooded raccoon as well, but was the same size... she said alot of the used coats they have are ones people brought in to them to just to get rid of them...the ones they deemed were repairable they did, and put them for sale...

well there are more strategic reasons to buy up their inventory. You would free up space for them and allow them to search for more inventory that they can restock or replace, and you can take these coats and sell them online via an eBay live auction or something. Earn some quick cash and be presented with new opportunities to find something that does fit. You could even purchase a custom garment in exactly your size if you make enough money.

I wonder if the used fur sales are trade in or consignment or donated furs? That's nice that sales lady is open to you looking around the shop.

From what she said, I gather they were donated to them to just use as fur pieces... the small selection they had she said something along the lines that they repaired what they deemed was repairable, and put them on the rack for resale.. in all honesty, the coyote was a beautiful coat.. nice long gaurd hairs still, nice colar... it was the sleeves that were way to short...

I have been wearing fur for a few weeks now, like my shearling vest with fox trim. Picked up all of my big winter furs from storage today. Looking forward to a nice cold winter.

Thats awesome! Looks like another week of way above normal temps here..  Looks like maybe by Oct 16 I have lows consistently around 0, so can probably restart my morning walks.... its starting to be dark in the mornings here as well, so won't look too obvious mid october walking in full length fur.. I still think its kind of early, but when/if opportunity strikes!! lol

We also stopped observing changing the clocks here... normally first week of novemeber we'd fall back an hour.. so now for a good chunk of winter the sun won't even rise until after 9AM, but will set an hour later.. definately going to be something to get used to...
