Fur Blanket Care Question

Question to those who have fur blankets or use a fur coat as a blanket like I occasionally do.  Now that the warm summer weather is slowly going away and cooler weather is just around the corner, I am sure many of you are looking forward to these colder nights where the furs will used as blankets or maybe you are fortunate enough to have a fur blanket year round.  Questions for you folks.  Most fur coats are stored in a closet protected from harmful ultraviolet rays from the sun.  Closet will help prevent drying of the pelts, etc.  As for those fur blankets are fur coats used as blankets, these are usually left laying on the bed during the daytime.  The window and curtains would be open to air out the bedroom during the daytime.  Would the sunlight and air dry out the pelts or even cause the fur to fade in color? Oxidize? damage the fur?  Will the fur get discolored?  Will the fur get damage by your sweat when sleeping?

Just wondering what are your experience on fur used as blankets?  Is it something what we should not worry about?

Sunlight will indeed discolor and dry furs. Window [skylight] shades are a must. Fresh air is a help for dampness and odors, but a thorough, occasional, professional cleaning is best. A throw set on chairs or a rack in the shade on a cool windy day does wonders. 

All of your concerns are valid. The idea is to minimize the damage done to the pieces while maximizing the pleasure of their usage.

I use some craft quality Fox coats at blankets at night. I think sleeping with them is decently hard on their longevity and an not expecting these to last forever, between the physical strain and the effect of sweat and oils. I do also have a rabbit bed spread but have that cleaned with some frequency.

Have you had the rabbit blanket for a long time?

 Cold storage during summer months along with professional cleaning is a must for me. I also try to avoid direct sun light whenever possible and heat sources in winter . Many types of furs will last years with proper care. I also recommend talking to a professional furrier.
