I am pretty sure it's brown mink. McKellen plays the James Whale, the British director who made the Frankenstein movies in 1930s Hollywood. When Britney Spears went to her first Grammys, she wore a white Randolph Duke dress with a white fur stole. I am pretty sure it was white fox.
