Efferus33 Posted October 4 Posted October 4 How is the fur season starting for you guys? I've found a few moments when temperatures dropped at around 10°C (50°F) to go for a walk while wearing my mink. However, as soon as the clouds let the sun shine it's a bit too hot for my coat, had to take it off. 1
FurSwede Posted Wednesday at 08:50 PM Author Posted Wednesday at 08:50 PM I would say that fur season begins when you feel like it. That said, of course it depends on what furs you have. I myself started wearing my black parka with red fox trim late September when temperatures fell below 10 C. I just got my full length furs from storage. A little early but my fall is packed with travel so this was when I had time to get them. In about 10 days I will be in Milan. Fingers crossed I can bring a fur or two 🙂 1
furluvgrl Posted Thursday at 01:28 AM Posted Thursday at 01:28 AM I wear my white fox pom pom earrings all year round, so its always fur season for moi.🐩 I went out in my white fox trim poncho the other day as it was actually quite chilly. Cant wait to wear out my coats in November.
WinnipegFur Posted Saturday at 11:52 AM Posted Saturday at 11:52 AM Ive been wearing full length mink consistently in the house in the mornings...I havent actually worn a fur coat out in the morning besides the backyard yet.. temperatures have just been all over... its like I get up in the morning at 545 and its zero and I think maybe its time for the first morning walk at the park.. and by the time I leave for work an hour later its upto +6 or something... even today and tomorrow they are calling highs near 20 again... Monday night is -2 though and that is getting around my kind of temperature for mink outside anyways... I need -9 or so for the heavier stuff like fox, raccoon and coyote.. 3

Panther10 Posted Saturday at 06:03 PM Posted Saturday at 06:03 PM We’re still seeing 60° F weather here in Chicago. I am anxious to wear my furs again. It’s finally starting to feel a little like fall again but I think we’re still a few months away from actual winter like conditions
furluvgrl Posted 18 hours ago Posted 18 hours ago Here's a question. Has anyone ever gone fur shopping on a cold day wearing fur? Once in new york I walked into a vintage store wearing my white shearling fur trim penny lane coat. I walked out with a new vintage thick blush fox fur stroller from that store. 2
kev86 Posted 13 hours ago Posted 13 hours ago I love to make shopping or fur shopping wrapped in fur during cold day and winter season, a real pleasure ! Today, I walked in the street, the wind was cold but not hard to wear my sheared mink. I just take my little mink scarf to avoid the wind in my neck.

I may have... usually in about mid October we get a few "cooler" evenings that I can take advantage of in the morning.. especially with the sun not coming up until later now, it usually dips a few more degrees... I think last year it was around -2 and I went out in my raccoon coat and hat but it was just to warm... I was thinking the other day I really need to find something like a black mink parka or something for days when its -2 area... Its usually around mid Novemeber or so when I can consistently be wrapped up in my long hair furs... 1

Thats the best time to be wearing fur I find... although the local furrier scene is dead around here, I always make the point of if Im going into one I always wear one of my coats... Last time I went into a shop here that mostly sells pelts, trims etc I wore my timber wolf parka, the store owner loved it! The store I bought my timberwolf parka from is a crusty old dude... I actually havent gone back in there in several years now.. Ive told this story before but I remember when I first got the parka, I was in his vault/storage area looking around (this was back in the mid/ late 90s or so) I was looking at the full length coyote and fox coats, and was sternly met with a "Those coats are resereved for women, the mens coats are on the end" I was kind of like errr OK.... I get "back then" the way the coat did up seemed to matter I guess, and I have to admit back then I was always afraid/shy that someone would see I was wearing a coat that did up the wrong way, always walking on the out of the way paths, or abruptly turning off the path or around if I saw anyone coming.. these days I don't think anyone even cares or notices... I see so many "womens" coats being sold as unisex these days... all depends on the fit and fur type in my opinion... like my compliment in the park last march from the lady walking... I had to tell her the raccoon coat was my moms and she never wears it so I do... her reaction was the perfect who cares, it looks great and you must be warm... 1

I almost always wear fur to the furrier. Mostly because that is a way to show them you are serious about furs. But also because it feels more natural to visit furriers / fur stores when it is colder outside. 2

Yeah that’s always a little annoying because from my experience most of the time it seems to be really embedded in the furriers vision of gender fashion and even if you try to explain they won’t listen. That’s why I don’t ask them if they have “furs from men” anymore because even if they say yes it doesn’t mean they’ll let you choose what you want. I wonder if entering with a fur could sort of change their mind and show them that you’re serious about your desires. Because I really don’t understand why they say that. It’s really not in their best interest. They could say a disclaimer like “okay you like this but I warn you that’s women’s wear but if it’s what’s you want and I can show you”. I don’t know if it’s that they don’t believe we want that or they just don’t understand. If it had to do with causing damage I understand but they should have L or XL models so… I don’t know. I should ask next time it happens haha

I should ask next time it happens haha I think it all depends on where you go... I dont have the advantage here of walking into any furriers that have new stock for sale.. The times I have gone in anywhere very distinct reactions from all places... The Bay downtown when it was open and had the Fur Salon.. went in one lunch and tried on several coats... the gentleman showing me stuff didnt care at all... I tried on a coyote jacket they had and no complaints at all.. he was more than happy to let me try on whatever I wanted. Chut Furs No new coats for sale, lots of product like hats, gloves - Been in there many times wearing fur coats, no issues Teris furs when it existed - brought a coyote coat in for repair, she repaired it for me.. took me downstairs to the salon and I tried on several coats, I remembr trying on a big fox jacket.. she said it was a womans coat, but then said though the fit was great and the more she looked at looked like anyone could wear it... (this was also late 90s) Eatons downtown - 2 women running it.. tried on a massive coyote, they were closing out then... this was about mid 1997? Anyways, they made some comment it was a womans coat, but the clasps never crossed over, it was more of the tuxedo style.. never did get it, back then it was just way out of my price range... Downtown furrier, took a coat in for repair wearing my Wolf parka - everyone loved it... But like I said, you look now and there are so many coats just listed as unisex, and they clearly do up crossing over for women... meh I could care less... no one notices anyways or cares these days...
