I can definitely vouch for horse racing tracks in the UK. I've been to Uttoxeter and Wolverhampton a few times and there are lots of ladies that go wearing fur and look fabulous. 🙂

Yeah, i used to love doing the races when i did part time coach driving years ago. Saw loads of furs. Never did cheltenham though. Alas i went back into my trade & all i’ll be seeing next week is the inside of a ship in tilbury docks.. 😩

On a related note, my wife and I are considering taking a trip to the UK (for the first time) early March 2026. I would like to visit Cheltenham (the Cotswalds) for a couple of nights.

What's the attitude towards furs there and what kinds of furs would I expect to see in March? The reason it has to be March is because my wife is a teacher and they have a two-week break at that time.

You will be absolutely fine wearing fur in the uk. The attitude to fur here now is just accepted. Sure you may get the occasional stare but you would get the same in any part of the world. Fur trims are extremely popular with raccoon being widely seen. Long furs are now becoming fashionable but short fur coats/ jackets is definitely a more popular option. March is still very cold so wrap up warm and wear your furs with pride!

Living in New York City, I’ve seen tons of furs already this year. Way more than usual by this time of year. Just yesterday I saw a gorgeous girl in her 20s taking photos in front of a brownstone in a marvelous red fox coat, and then shortly after I saw a women in a sable coat walking down the street. And I’ve seen a few others too over the past couple of weeks. Maybe we are in for a very furry winter!

Out of curiosity, Is your wife a prominent wearer of furs …and was she prior to meeting you? Mine never was initially (and I don’t think she ever tried on one before meeting me) but as she enters her more mature years here - definitely considers it part of her winter wardrobe if I bring it to mention (in other words, I don’t think I’ve come home during a winter night, and drive up and seeing her talking with the neighbor outside wearing her mink.)

I saw a young Edinburgh University student wearing a full length mink coat today at the University district. Alas, I was on a bus so I didn’t get the opportunity to see her up close but I’ve seen a few Uni students wearing fur these last couple of years.

It was -1 degrees today so well worth wearing fur.  I had a full length mink on today as well as my Russian Sable scarf.  I got lots of compliments from total strangers!

I go walk on the park. the weather announcing -3 degrees for tomorrow. Perfect condition and I'm really impatient to enjoying this relaxing moment...

I'm surprised by a full length for a university student, I agree with you this is rarely hahaha.

Go back to school, honestly I don't follow you. I don't save a good memories. I stopped when I had 17 years for working directly, I don't regret my decision...

I prefer follow the professor who are wrapped in a mink full length hahaha...

I think there’s a real trend now for young women to be exploring their mother’s/aunt’s/grandmother’s cupboards and wardrobes and finding long since abandoned furs and asking ‘how come nobody wears these fabulous garments now?’  The whole anti-fur nonsense seems to have become old hat and vintage clothing feeds into the sustainability mood.

On a slightly different note, Mrs. DB and I went to a classical concert in St. Andrews, famed for its university.  There are always many Asian students who have taken to Western classical music in a big way.  Anyway, there was a tall Asian girl, late teens/ early 20’s wearing an ankle length sable coat!  I spoke to her and told her how much I loved her sable.  She thanked me and was impressed that I recognised it as sable and not mink.  Then she said, ‘yes, it’s one of my mother’s old ones. She replaces her furs every year!’

It would be very nice to be on her mother's list for taking those "old" furs .

Amazing young girl wrapped in Sable is really nice and adorable. Surely this university would have a high standard...

Asian peoples are always respectful and adorable, well education !

"She replaces her furs every year". We don't have same problem hahaha... Cool for her but not my philosophy, I don't find a real pleasure to replaces fur...

Rich peoples like Asian or Russian don't have the same philosophy...

You are absolutely right and honestly I have stopped counting people in their 20s wearing mink. Fox I rarely see some.

The second hand market is gaining momentum and prices are so high! Since they know those young people aren’t going to buy new they just set whatever price they want…

I had a grammar school teacher that wore her mink coat when we were out on a field trip.  I remember all the girls wanted to touch it.

A young lady in her 20s wearing a sable coat.  wow.  Great job DB for complimenting her.

Yeah, that's true but I think many young ladies found vintage fur full of charm, the price is not really reasonable but we found many treasures if we search correctly...

The new fur is soon banned by European Union Commission. Surely, vintage is the future of fur...
