I'm not sure how to word this post, or whether it's appropriate. I don't know whether I'm just paranoid or whether there's actually something amiss. I looked in the user guidelines to confirm whether this post will be in breach of any user agreements, and I don't think that it will be.

Today I was trolling around online looking for coats (I recently snagged a vintage silver fox and now I'm bordering on obsessed) when I stumbled on this really great deal:

https://www.furhatworld.com/luna-sable-fur-sections-coat-with-hood-p-6420.html

I thought, "This is waay too good to be true" and, "Why doesn't the price change when I change sizes?"

Oh, and, "Why are the reviewers names blotted out with asterisks?"

So I Google the supplier 'FRR Furs' and noticed that I couldn't see the coat on their site. I figured that's because FurHatWorld has it listed as a pre-order. So I used the 'Contact Us' link on FRR's website and sent in my query. I asked whether it was part of their collection. I also asked whether their furs were manufactured in Canada or in China. The listing for the Luna Sable on FurHatWorld states "Imported".

- It was this review that made me question the country of manufacture: https://www.resellerratings.com/user/DTAJOOOL (The coat was 'Made in China')

- This review too: https://au.trustpilot.com/reviews/60829f92f9f48701fc7b51c3

----------------------------------------

So I received my confirmation email from FRR, but it came from the following email: [email protected]

What's "CNF Marketing"?

(Lol; the last one is just paranoid conjecture on my part.. nothing to back it up)

I also found this other website: http://www.furcoats.com/cgi-sys/defaultwebpage.cgi (Here: https://furguide.wordpress.com/?fbclid=IwAR1XjwAw3gaN4KAJ0hDAi1DOpLlCcm07NL-W2e8boXj9ZFYINrXVGvQzd5w)

Gaaah!

I feel like I'm going crackers. I'm sure I'm looking too deeply.

If the owners come to this page, please slim down your online presence. You're selling luxury items that aren't cheap... trust plays a big part in niche markets (I'm also into corsetry and tightlacing, a market that it also highly controversial, and expensive.. with some couture pieces costing well over $1000USD). And I can't help but draw similarities between this rabbit hole and OTR Chinesium brands like: CorsetStory, Corset-Story, Orchard Corset, Corset Deal, and now... unfortunately, Vollers... a company that was making legitimate corsets since the age of tightlacing in the 1880s (but not since their fall around 2018? I thought they closed up shop, but I guess they just sacked all their British workers and moved their manufactory to Asia).

Why bring the tightlacing community into this?

Because they are wonderfully vigilant, strict, passionate, and obsessed . There is incredible brand awareness, brand loyalty, and conservatism within the community. Here in the FurDen, I'm kinda feeling a bit lost. Where can we safely purchase furs online without being ripped off by retail giants? Sure, the stakes aren't as high (get a cheap corset and risk lifelong nerve damage), but the moral cost is higher with fur. I do not want to purchase from a company that is sourcing their furs from manufacturers who are commiting gross animal rights crimes, whilst exploiting adults and children in sweatshop-like conditions in the developing world...

Do we have a directory that lists reputable and established furriers? and if not.. then shouldn't we?

Thoughts on all of this are very welcome. I've spent most of my night on this (not gonna lie), I've clearly changed direction mid spiel...

I look forward to everyone's thoughts.

P.S. I intend to post a piccie soon of my first ever fur! My vintage silver fox; it's absolutely stunning!

Can't wait for my next coat. I'm thinking blue fox? (Big ticket items like this would be notoriously hard to find near new here in Aus.. and if you had one made it would be overpriced... This is a very expensive country to live in)

Jackson Furs here in Brisbane also has this gorgeous sheared lapin with white fox trim. Ugh!

https://jacksonfurs.com.au/collections/coats/products/sheared-lapin-coat

I think I'll try it on when I take my silver fox in for cleaning and storage in October 🙂

g'day from Brisbane too. my only suggestion is that if you pay by credit card or paypal your purchase is protected so the risk is negligible. they look like a well established brand. if the fur suits your needs go for it.  would love to see the pics of your silver fox. 😃

I never gave a thought about this, but fur could be e-commerce as well. The https://cnfmarketing.com/our-brands/  website clearly states:

Our core business areas include

  • eCommerce Website development & management.
  • Full-service Online Marketing.
  • Dedicated call center customer care team.
  • Full-service fulfillment.

Similar is mentioned in the "about us"webpage of furhatworld:

All of the Fur Source brands are family run and both founders are still regularly involved in the day-to-day operations. On a busy day, you will find the owners working side-by-side with the employees packaging orders or taking customer service calls. This instills a culture where every employee genuinely cares about the quality of the product and customer experiences. You can expect the same great shopping experience at any of our e-commerce websites. The Fur Source family of brands sets the highest standard for product quality, customer service, and competitive pricing.

They are simply re-sellers and not stating where the fur is coming from, which is for me online business as usual. Just moving boxes from manufactures to customers is a relative safe business since you have no need for an expensive factory in bad financial times. Just make sure you understand your rights when buying online and I prefer to pay with credit card. These give you amazing rights as a customer and credit card companies can even fine the sellers.

You simply seem to be willing to buy at a reliable manufacturer with amazing reviews. I am pretty sure if you take their pictures to any furrier they will make the product or just make your life easy and give them the business . Personally I think the manufacturer charges the same price for different sizes to the website when selling to the website, it could be pricing policies from the manufacturer or marketing from the website.

Hope this helps

Thanks everyone!

Really appreciate your advice. U think I was really just overthinking things.

I will post soon with my silver fox and also my new rabbit; when it arrives. I'm so sad that I won't get a chance to wear them now that it's getting warmer 😭
