How should I clean the fur coat lining?

Evening fellow fur enthusiasts!

The title actually says it all. How would I go about cleaning the silk lining of a fur coat? Is the fur itsself affected by it?

Do I need to bring it to a professional fur cleaner?

PS: Merry Christmas to everyone who reads this!

Merry Christmas.

From what i understand, the lining is very hard to clean. Many times, it just need to be replaced because the furrier can not clean it. I am not sure if others here have the same story. This is what a furrier told me. Not that i have soiled one but this is what he has told me.

I think minkme's answer is fairly accurate.

Depending on the type of soil/stain and the type of lining fabric it *might* be possible to clean a lining. But that would at least require un-sewing the hem of the lining in order to be able to protect the leather side of the fur from the chemicals used.

A good furrier can easily replace the lining and that in most cases is probably the best solution.

If it is just a light stain you can try clean it with a wet towel by simply rub on it. Dry it then with a hair dryer on cold level. Afterwards let the fur dry on a hanger turned inside out for a day or so. If have done so several times and it really worked to remove everything or at least to improve it.

Thank you for the help, I think I will go with what minkme said.
