furlucious Posted Tuesday at 03:07 PM Posted Tuesday at 03:07 PM I was wondering how y'all feel about the Vintage Fur trend that has been going on for the past two years. I personally have mixed feelings about it. It is great that more people are wearing real fur again which also creates more fur coat content which we all love. On the other side I noticed that good deals on fur coats sell really quickly on second hand sites (I've just missed out on a gorgeous Polar Fox coat for 140 euros that had 20 likes and 5 offers in like 10 minutes after being listed) and the prices overall seem to get more expensive.. A few years back I was able to get absolute steals on fur coats here in Europe and I seemed to be one of the few people interested in buying. What are your thoughts?
CoyoteFox Posted Tuesday at 03:31 PM Posted Tuesday at 03:31 PM (edited) Agree with you that its two-sided... Re-sale fur prices are ridiculous these days, but the content has never been better... Lets hope (what's left of a dominant) Pop Culture continues to celebrate fur, giving the public permission to feel confident to wear fur garments without reservation or fear... Like any good Marxist, fur protesters gain influence by exaggerating how much power and support they actually have... We need to all start complimenting fur coats everywhere we see them... Get these coats out of the closets!!! Edited Tuesday at 03:40 PM by CoyoteFox 3
kev86 Posted Tuesday at 03:40 PM Posted Tuesday at 03:40 PM It is true that vintage fur has had a new face in recent years and especially in recent months. it is interesting to see the generation (18-25 years old) being attracted to second-hand goods in general, fur being more affordable and accessible than new. Myself, when I had less finances than my current situation, vintage fur was a first step in creating my collection. There is old vintage and recent vintage, coats that are 40 years old as well as unsold collector's coats that become vintage furs. 2
Jerome Posted 15 hours ago Posted 15 hours ago This topic has many facets. On one hand there is the market trend of vintage furs and I agree with what is written above. Unfortunately many of those "vintage" coats are from the last century and not always in a great shape, mainly due to poor maintenance. Those which are in good condition tend to become more expensive (and rare) indeed, but there is nothing like wrapping oneself in a beautiful vintage mink. A priceless experience. I often regret not to have bought many more coats about 10 years ago ... as I regret not to have bought gold 10 years ago ... or NVidia shares. On the other hand there is the vintage fur fashion, the style of the fifties, sixties, seventies and eighties. This triggers a lot of nostalgia. Another cause of regret. 2
kev86 Posted 11 hours ago Posted 11 hours ago It's true that some coats haven't always been well cared for, so it's certain that in Europe, the vintage market and demand drive prices up very quickly. In the United States, prices seem more affordable in thrift stores or department stores specializing in vintage... Modern coats unfortunately have a similar style. If you want more elegant and flattering styles, you have to go back to the fifties, sixties, and earlier to find wonderful, very long coats, because back then, ladies had their coats lengthened for added elegance! The controversy surrounding breeding and living conditions was not a concern for all these ladies who liked to visit the furrier, just as today one would go to the butcher or the hairdresser. A person who buys vintage items may always be looking for furs in excellent condition because their budget evolves to allow them to indulge in a wider selection and majestic coats! 1
furlucious Posted 7 hours ago Author Posted 7 hours ago Yes it is definitely true that not all vintage coats have been cared after properly, especially when looking inside second-hand stores. I visited some vintage stores in Amsterdam a few weeks back but all the coats on the racks looked a bit 'scruffy'. The prices were around 100euros so still pretty fair I guess. The more cared after and beautiful looking coats I see on second hand platforms online tend to sell really quickly nowadays, sometimes even for some crazy high price. At the end of the day it is supply and demand and this trend will probably be over in a few years, especially with how fast trends are moving nowadays due to social media. So for now I will just enjoy all the new content and hope there will be plenty of vintage furs in the future to enjoy. I'm just a sucker for the 80s/90s massive statement coats.. 1
kev86 Posted 6 hours ago Posted 6 hours ago (edited) It's not easy to find the perfect fur coat, when we don't have a crush... Of course, social media are important for seller who use online platform like (Ebay, Etsy and more). Edited 6 hours ago by kev86

Just curious - which online sites are you using?
