Two silver foxes and enough minks for a new coat.

I discovered on Facebook that I have a distant cousin in Poland. He breeds foxes and minks there. About 19 years ago, he moved his business from the Netherlands to Poland because he was fed up with the anti-fur sentiment and the enormous regulatory burden imposed by politicians.

Soon, around 19,000 minks and some 1,100 foxes will need to be harvested. My wife and I have decided to help out. We will soon be heading to the Polish countryside. I will be involved in (helping with) the slaughtering and skinning, as well as other tasks. My wife will mainly take care of household chores.

As a reward, I will receive two silver foxes and 60 minks. My wife and I are discussing this: we both want a new coat. We will probably ask my cousin if we can buy furs for my wife at cost price.

So I will have a busy time on the farm and slaughter my own animals for a coat. My wife has said that she wants to see the animals and the fur afterwards, but doesn't want to witness the slaughter. She will also get a new coat.

I am really looking forward to this: a dream come true. Of course, I will report on it from time to time, but unfortunately without photos. My wife and I are going to sign for them.

We are looking forward to our new experiences.

Yeah, politicians and the regularity about fur farm are really hard and I don't imagine the next year with "Union European Commission".

A massive number of minks and foxes, really fun and I see like you a real opportunity to have new fur coat with these beautiful pelts !!!

A beautiful opportunity for your wife and yourself, surely you have fun moment and aopportunity to stroke your next coat, hahaha...

Your wife is really happy for this opportunity and I understand her...

Great to read soon the next chapter of this adventure. Poland is perfect for wearing fur during the winter season...

I'm jealous, I search new pelts, hahaha...

I'm happy for you !!!

Yesterday we arrived at the fur farm in Poland. My cousin and his wife gave us a warm welcome. We are sleeping in the guest house.

My cousin and his wife have a beautiful house, and the farm is huge, with thousands of animals and lots of barns. The minks and foxes live in open stables. At the moment, they have their beautiful winter coats and are ready to be harvested. I went straight to the foxes to take a look. The silver foxes are beautiful: deep black and shiny silver hair. They are also nice and big. Maybe a meter and a half, once skinned. Soon I will choose two. I want to skin them so that the fur remains completely intact: the head with ears and lips and the paws with their claws and, of course, the tail. It will be a wonderful addition and I look forward to playing with the lovely fur while watching TV.

Today, my wife and I looked everywhere, and after lunch we will start work. My wife will mainly help with the housework: making coffee and food for the workers. I will help with the harvest of minks and foxes. My wife loves fur very much, but she doesn't want to see the killing and skinning.

We think we will stay for about two weeks.

That would be great. I would love to see him selecting his first fox and pelt him.

But he already said and that's pretty normal that the farm owner did want any pictures 🙁 and I think we have to respect that.

Ah yes I forgot. I got too wrapped up in the excitement of this opportunity and the continuation of these details!

It makes sense though. I’m sure we are all jealous haha

On Monday afternoon, I helped killing the minks. The minks look beautiful: the fur is shiny, it is nicely even in length and nicely uniform with a slightly darker stripe on the back. The animals are lively and healthy.
Minks are killed by gas. You don't want to damage the fur. I walked through the rows of cages with the gas box and let a mink in through the hatch each time. After a while they are dead. The minks are in separate compartments. I open the door and grab the mink (wearing thick gloves, otherwise you will get bitten) and put it in the gas box. Here begins the wet dream of many furlovers. It is the beginning of obtaining that magnificent fur. For me it was very fun work; for the minks it was less fun. The minks wore their fur for seven months and now I can enjoy the fur for decades.
At the skinning area, I opened the gas box and placed the animals on a cart to cool down. Most of the animals were dead, but a few were still alive. So they got a second treatment. After sufficient cooling, their jacket is pulled off with a machine. Very nice to see.
Together with my nephew I harvested my two foxes. My foxes were killed with electricity. You put an electrode in the anus of the fox: you hold the other electrode in front of his snout. Usually the fox helpfully bites into this electrode and the circuit is closed. Very nice to cooperate so well.
The skinning of the foxes is done manually. The foxes are too big for the machine. My nephew did most of the work, because I have no experience yet, but I really wanted to have a fur that was as beautiful as possible, complete with claws, tail, lips and ears on its head. After skinning (the fur was still warm) I cleaned the leather side of fat and combed the beautiful hairs. It has become a wonderfull beautiful pelt.
After that I proudly went to show my wife the two foxes. She thought the fur was beautiful. It shines beautifully, is gorgeous in color and nice and soft. When these foxes have been tanned in a while, they will be a wonderful addition to my collection.

A great day ahead for all those minks and foxes...

I'm glad to hear about the process for the minks; from beginning to end, they were in a cage! Minks have never exactly been known for a fun life, hahaha...

Electrocution of the foxes must be a special moment; they're certainly not ready for such a fate.

All in all, skinning those foxes must have been an incredible experience for you.

Now you have two magnificent pelts for your collection...

Congratulations!

Even if this is all made up, it’s pretty exciting for us fur enthusiasts out there.
The whole concept of raising animals for there fur is an exciting one to me anyway. I have no problem with fur bearing animals, but I am a devout cat lover! Happy Christmas everyone & hope to see plenty of fur this winter!

As I write this, I’ve put the last bit of wood on the fire & will be going to bed when it dies out. I’m full of a stinking cold & feel rotten. I’ve got a gorgeous new full pelt silver fox bedspread to keep me warm. I love it. Two rows of 7 skins, 14 skins in total and there large skins.

Congratulations, this is a great idea, a fox bedspread staying you safe for the night, you sleep well in the comfort. The bedspread is a beautiful decoration!

14 silver foxes sounds perfectly, especially when the skin is large and very soft...

I wait the next year for ordering my fur thrown and I can choose the perfect combination of animals, of course full pelt types!
