kev86 Posted January 31 Posted January 31 Indeed, with weather like this and a fur convention, it should be perfectly reasonable to see more furs and take full advantage of them... Let's hope the convention is interesting and there's a lot of choice! It must be truly incredible, and I would have loved to attend if I were in Canada.
WinnipegFur Posted February 2 Author Posted February 2 Funny this morning..met the lady in the park this morning with my raccoon on.. we stopped and chatted briefly..she said your smart have your muskrat out... I didn't bother correcting her but thought it was funny.. we crossed paths again and she said you just walk the loop here..I said normally , she said she lives around the area and walks in..so I said where's your fur coat!! Hilarious she says evidently I have the market cornered and there aren't any 😂 2 2

At some point, it would be wise to have a clear and precise answer on this. By the way, were you able to visit the convention?

This morning was pretty mild for here.. -7, I wasnt going to bother with a morning walk but decided otherwise... hadnt worn my full lenght coyote/white fox in a while, so pulled that on as well as a white knit fox fur hat.. the coat is really long (just past mid shin on me) but the sleeves really could be a few inches longer, so I wore my coyote mitts today as well to fill the arm length gap.. I did my usual loop in hopes of coming across the woman from the past raccoon experience, I thought I saw her coming and was getting all prepared for a how do you like THIS coat comment.. it wasnt her though.. it was another woman I sometimes see and she just stares right through you.. I just kept on walking and glanced at her.. she never says anything, buy you can tell shes angry about fur.... I got off work early, so went to the other park.. by now its -4 out... for me.. thats pretty warm... fur coat weather... kinda... was it cold enough for all the fur I had on... probably not, but hey, Im here, and lets go for a walk around the skating pond... when I got back to the shelter there was an older lady walking.. probably European, she didnt look to happy either.. she looked me up and down a few times.. but with her I said Hello how are you doing... she then almost snapped out of her stare and said she was doing good and kept walking.. she was in her car by the time I walked another loop, and she was still staring at me LOL Its a pretty awesome coat for sure, and can see why it gets some stares..I don't know if she was a fur angry stare.. I know the one in the morning is pretty angry though hahahaha... unfortunately, its a -1 overnight low, so I think fur is out of the question for me tomorrow unless there is nasty wind... could always just pull out the wolf or lynx parka instead... We will see... 4
kev86 Posted February 5 Posted February 5 Oh, such a shame for you... It's not easy to found a fur coat with perfect sleeves when we are a men, myself I don't bought fur for the reason. Really hard to find a fox or coyote... A great fur walk but those ladies are not friendly hahaha... People are angry or totally fan, both sides. European lady doesn't understand your fur looks because she never saw it before. Personally, I'm dreaming about a great fur walk wrapped in fur during a Canadian winter. Now, in France we don't have a long winter season, we have humidity, wind is cold but with the rain everyday, I forget the idea of wearing fur. So bad... Yeah, will we see...
WinnipegFur Posted February 5 Author Posted February 5 Lynx parka with the hood up this morning as the temperature was only -4... Comfortable temp for that coat, there was no wind either though... The lady I talk about fur with was walking but going same direction as me so I reversed tracks to meet up with her.. she started with I love that coat and immediately rubbed the sleeve and said it's so soft.. but then said is it rabbit lol I played dumb and said I think it's lynx.. I went into to tell her about the dirty look from the other lady yesterday with my coyote..we laughed and she said maybe she'll bring some paint next time.. she said she's loves seeing all the different coats... Good morning walk for sure.... 2
abitoni48 Posted February 6 Posted February 6 I just had a run in with someone in a fur. Couple of hours ago, too. I was at an NBA game, was standing by on the concourse after the game, waiting for a friend. This girl walks by in what was basically a grey fox fur vest. Not exactly a vest, much longer, but an interesting piece and really beautiful. I was going to take a pic real quick, but I get a bit weird about taking photos of other people in public places, esp without their consent. And, also, mainly the reason I didn't take the photo was she was kind of already by me when I got my camera up. I sort of missed her until she was already somewhat close to me, then realized what she was wearing in front of me. She seemed a bit on the younger side too. It would make snapping a pic of her a bit more weird but also at the same time, it is rather uplifting. Seeing someone young unapologetically wear real fur that is quality like that is a comforting sign of the times in terms of how folks in that age range are viewing the world vis a vis fur. Like I've said, I live in the south. I don't really get to see the nice furs all that often. 3

Surely, this lady is a real fur lover and she doesn't are shy about stupid people and bad comments, so cool for you! Now, the real target is to understand why she doesn't wear fur during winter season and cold weather. Surely, she will be happy to try it and feel comfortable and elegant for walk to the park. She is really sweet and adorable!

That familiar heat emanating from the collar as the fur tickles your cheek... Just feels right! 🙂 Rich moms in Toronto are all wearing long oversized faux fur coats this Fall for the cold mornings... Good sign of things to come! I wear my artic fox coat out here in Maine every evening watching the stars and the moon. 5 1
kev86 Posted February 7 Posted February 7 An amazing idea, so cool... Your artic fox coat is really nice!

WinnipegFur Posted February 12 Author Posted February 12 Anyone had any lucky outings? Ive been working from home all week so shy of the backyard havent been wrapped in fur all week.. Plus we're in a warm snap here, temperatures hovering right around 0 for highs, the lows are still -9 or so, and it been fog/mist in the morning so its that damp cold... Normal highs and lows are still -9 and -19 so I still have another solid month of fur... I think were supposed to get a big snow storm mid week as well! 2
kev86 Posted February 12 Posted February 12 I don't have a opportunity to wear my fur these days, wind is cold but we have a lot of rain here. Maybe I will have saturday morning a opportunity to wear fur. Saturday morning (0°C) but the feeling will be negative with the wind, I'm impatient to walk wrapped in my mink and leather gloves with rabbit fur lining...
WinnipegFur Posted February 16 Author Posted February 16 Well fur season returns for me shortly! Big snowstorm rolling through starting tomorrow night and lasting a few days it seems.. looks like possibility of a foot of snow, then temps drop to normal or below normal for the following 10 days... 2

I'm so happy for you! It's great to see winter weather returning with temperatures warm enough to wear furs. In France, the weather isn't quite the same. We're having a period of heavy rain. So far, my house isn't flooded, and I hope it stays that way, because the rivers are still rising. I miss the cold weather and sub-zero temperatures during the holidays.

I miss the cold weather and sub-zero temperatures during the holidays. Cold weather probably over for you guys over in Europe... even watching the Olympics I have not seen a day where its snowing.. all the cross country ski stuff is on artificial snow... We've only really been hit once this year with a significant storm, that turned into a blizzard... not alot of snow, but the wind was crazy.. this time looks like alot of snow ,now officially calling 25-30cm.. windy too at 40kmh so theres gonna be quite the mess... it all start Tuesday night.. I hope it hits hard Tuesdy night as its supposed to go all day Wednesday.. I really don't want to go into work on Wednesday morning in a snowstorm, and then be trapped there not being able to get home.... 1
kev86 Posted February 17 Posted February 17 I completely understand; it's best to avoid problems that complicate driving conditions. I don't watch the Olympics much because I don't have much time and I'm not a big fan... I'm not really asking for snow, as that would hinder my work. I'm more interested in a cold snap, not mild temperatures that promote humidity.
WinnipegFur Posted February 28 Author Posted February 28 So got out this morning in the raccoon... I wasnt expecting it to be so warm.. +3, but a NW wind blowing... went for a walk around my normal park loop and came across the woman who always gives me the evil look... today surprisingly she actually said Good Morning.... I asked how she was while walking by and she said good and you.. we just continued on our way... Interesting how it goes sometimes... Since its also getting light so much earlier for another week until we change the clocks forward, Ive now been starting my walks in daylight.. normally its still dark... really noticed the coloring in the raccoon coat in the daylight... the long silver gaurd hairs on the sleeve really stand out... Tomorrow morning is calling for a balmy -40 windchill... (Yes I did say it was +3 this morning) so in 24 hours we have a 75 degree difference in temperatures... Like I always say with Winnipeg.. You literally could get away with wearing a fur coat and shorts all in 24 hour period... Next couple of weeks still looks promising for fur as well... and looking at the long range if they are right, looking at another 30cm of snow possible... 1
minkme Posted February 28 Posted February 28 I think you are wearing her down. She is warming up to you and your fur. 1

I usually see her more than the one that we stop and chat with.. Sundays overnite low is still calling for -10 and wind, so another morning wrapped in fur... 1
WinnipegFur Posted March 2 Author Posted March 2 Im really starting to notice lately.. no one really cares that you're wearing a fur coat.. This morning I walked my normal loop twice.. People walking pets seem to not be the fur type.. I have dogs as well.. Its funny because when I pull out a coat, the dogs always seem to get a ohh whats the look and want to get close to it... Anyways, this morning during my walk a woman was out jogging with her 2 dogs.. I saw them coming towards me and immediately got that Im gonna get that death stare look... as she went by she energetically said Good morning, and I love your coat as she carried on her way.. 3

I understand, you are afraid when you see the lady and her dogs running in your direction but finally you meet a lady who loves fur, and who doesn't have problems to explain it proudly... I find it very adorable and so positive for you, maybe you met her next day during a normal walk, and talking about fur !!! We are always curious about it when we receive a beautiful compliment. I think people are warming to the fact fur is back.. and its a vintage fur... I wouldnt say afraid... Im a dog owner as well.. I get it, we love our furry friends, my dog is the most important thing to me.. so when I see someone walking a pet you never know if you are gonna get the stare, the words... nothing has ever come of it though. I didnt get to go for a walk this morning, I ended up leaving late for work and didnt have time... would have been a nice morning to for fur, it was -18 with the windchill. Will definately be a fur coat morning tomorrow and Friday with a -20 windchill... the weekend takes a total flip with highs of +4, but then after that the long range is calling for the minus teens lows, so I still have at least 2 more weeks of full length furs to go... after that will probably shift to my wolf or lynx parka before fur season is over... things just flip here, theres generally no in between seasons here, it goes full on opposite within 2 days.. While it is still winter, legitmately in a month I could be wearing shorts outside and highs in the mid plus teens.. We go back on daylight savings time this weekend as well.. so it will be dark again in the mornings.. I almost prefer the mornings where its not entirely bright out yet.. but then again, I do also love seeing the coloring of the fur in the sunlight and watch the wind whip the guard hairs around on the sleeves... 1
kev86 Posted March 5 Posted March 5 I totally agree with you. After, all depends how dogs are educated by its owner. I appreciate dogs and I had one before... I understand that, the weather in my country is really warm, now and we are ready for a sweet spring. Maybe a surprise for the middle of march, but i think fur season is over.

I didnt get to go for my fur walk this morning.. we ended up getting alot of freezing rain lastnite and walking would have been crazy.... it warms up alot this weekend, +4 like they said, but then Monday night is back to -17... On a sidenote.. In my local fur search I discovered a size 14 lynx fur coat for sale... they only want $100 lol ... I already sent them a message saying I was interested and could pick it up tomorrow morning.. still waiting for a reply... 2
