"I'm not sure you could imagine a fur too big for my liking"

I sent this directive to a commissioned artist to insist that they make the fur coat ridiculously huge:

I suspect this is "too big" for many folks around here 🙂 most reasonable artists (I think) have a hard time imagining exactly how big I want the coat.

Fantastic!  However, one hazards of a coat of that size is that you can’t hang it up!  I have an absolute fabulous mink coat that has enough skins to make two coats but it’s too heavy to put on a hanger and has to be stored flat.  Mind you, it’s like being wrapped in a great mink cocoon.

Yes, I have some furs which are so big and heavy they are practically unwearable, so there is a limit. But I get where you're coming from.

I'm totally agree with you about this idea, this is really lovely to be wrapped in a voluminous and full-length mink coat. So warm, so elegant, so glamor and I don't forget the softness who transport me directly in a world of relaxation and pleasure !!!

In the future, I want ordering a new one, and I want it to be sheared mink. If the furrier ask me, I don't have limit about the number of mink used !

I search the pleasure, the softness and the hours pass guided by the movement of the coat in my hands...

I think, when we are full lover, especially fetishists. this is a necessity to have a massive fur coat or scarf. Surely wear it in public is impossible but massive fur coats are destined for the pleasure only !!!

I certainly am a fan of unreasonably big furs 😄

I have the same feelings about fur or just a animal used for decorating my house.

Many fur lovers don't have hesitation about the pleasure of seeing a big number of pelts used to make a big coat or a large blanket...

My pleasure to wear a mink coat and count the number of mink hahaha. The real pleasure to visit a fur farm and after visit the furrier for ordering a glamorous fur !!!

The delightful sight of women (and some men) enjoying the sumptuous furs of the late 70's and 80's influenced my desire to own a fur.  I have always been a sensual person who enjoyed  softness, fluff ,warmth and luxury. Thoughts of being swathed in such furs was a curiosity that needed to be satisfied.  Needless to say my coat has a large collar that I love!

I'm totally agree with you, don't forget during 50's/60's/70's, the fur fashion was thinking differently. many ladies loved fur and when she visited a furrier for ordered a new coat. The rule was simple :

- Large and big collar

- Full floor until feet

- Full pelts

Lady thinking about her elegance and her pleasure ! don't be ashamed to be wrapped in furtastic coats.

I had a white fox a few years ago that was so heavy it caused long term back and neck pain. It had a giant collar, whole skins and a large sweep. Extra long length of about 64” from the shoulder and the size was around a men’s 5x. It was a coat I saved for incredibly cold days where temps dropped below zero but the weight of the coat was extremely problematic. I inevitably sold that fur a few years ago but the damage it did to my upper body and extremities seem to be permanent thus far.

I am so sorry that happened to you. Was it a custom coat? I wear an off the rack Full-length coyote and beaver both with shawl collars. So far no problems with casual strolls and average wear but I will keep your post in mind.
Like many people, when I like something I want more of it and I love furs! Since I do not have the funds or lifestyle to indulge, I enjoy looking at the many gorgeous opulent furs of past and present. Saves money on storage and sometimes wanting is more exciting than having.
I try to remember my introduction came not from a massive fur coat but from a smaller delightfully fluffy fox wrap. I will also never forget the excitement when my fingers and cheek (Facial) felt a mink stole for the first time. Again , nothing many women did not own at the time but it felt like a touch of luxury to me! My coats are more than I ever thought I would have but there is a fox wrap draped over my sofa!

Panther 10 raises an excellent point of taking weight into consideration when shopping for a coat. Make sure you are comfortable if your coat is for practical wear. We don't  have to surrender to more is always better, especially for a single garment that effects comfort, least of all health.
I wish you all the best and a full recovery Panther 10.

My heaviest fur piece might well be the double sided fox fur snowsuit and with this I have weared it several times where the love of wearing it was well beyond caring for the weight but enjoying the fluffy feel of wearing it ! So I can not say to have felt that "too much and too heavy" at all ....

But: if you do not feel well to wear then of course you do not need to do it ! Nice that you let another wearer taking care of having a burden and I am hoping you are doing well thereafter !

Obviously a massive and heavy fox coat could provide amazing enjoyment without actually wearing it. I would hesitate removing one like that from my collection. It could have made a lovely throw!

They’re heavier because the fur adds weight. Fox furs typically have two layers of fur. There are the guard hairs that act as the top layer of fur and they tend to shed over time. Then you have the underfur which provides the insulation and bulk and then there is the leather skin underneath that. So yeah a fox coat is easily 2-3x heavier than a leather coat or jacket. My white fox was easily 45 lbs

So, which of any of the different types of fox furs are the most lite weighted furs??? That aren't so heavy?

So is know what to look for when buying a fox fur coat or trying it on weather it be a thrift shop or a furrier....

I’ve found that my indigo fox is pretty lightweight. Despite its Big & Tall size range, it only weighs about as much as a bathrobe. I’ve also heard that red fox, golden island shadow fox, arctic marble, platinum fox and a traditional golden island can be pretty lightweight. But your typical blue foxes, white foxes, silver foxes and cross foxes are typically on the heavier side

I certainly understand the concept of "the more fur the better". But that is mostly from the fur fetish side of things. As other people have already mentioned, it then becomes an issue of weight and comfort. Fur coats (and jackets) I wear out have to be comfortable.

Pelts that have been "let out" or "dropped" will be lighter than skin on/to skin whole pelt garments.

Finnish Racoon coats are notoriously heavy.

It also depends on how the pelts were tanned and prepared. With today’s methods the leather can be so much thinner than before resulting in lighter pelts. It also depends on how much you stretch the pelts.

Now either you or someone else just needs to have it become reality with a custom coat from a store like Sobolini :P

That’s a given, clothes should never be too small. That’s a really bad look.
