My local furrier did an amazing job restyling my blue fox into a hooded, hip length jacket so I inquired about whether or not they had a rex rabbit jn the same style. She said no, but she could look to see what pelts were available and have one made for me. I love the idea, but I am afraid of what the estimate might be. I see similar jackets (new) on Etsy going anywhere from $500 to $1200. Have any of you had experience with rex before?

Check out Ebay, especially under "chinchilla fur" as a ton of quality good deals are available there. Dilart has great quality coats at reasonable costs. I have a few of theirs and am happy with them. At Etsy, especially Fenzo furs, are good quality. I have several of their rex rabbit blankets.

Rex rabbit is a decent fur, pretty light weight, soft, does not shred, durable, warm. I have 1 rex rabbit coat but basically do not wear it since I am not particular found of the looks and prefer mink/fox/sable. Do understand, fur coats are made with manual labor, which is expensive depending on the country where it was made. A simple jacket takes about 40 hours, multiply this with the labor rate and add the price of the skins. Personally I think if you are a little more on the budget and desire a custom made item chinchilla rex is a good choice and can be also great to be used as a lining.

I've looked into Fenzo and they seem legit. I wanted to give my local furrier some more business, which is why I enquired there first. The ones in Massachusetts are a quickly dying breed. We have 2, maybe 3 within driving distance for me. I felt I owe it to brick and mortar furriers to give them a shot first. Who knows? The price could be just right.
