Never saw the place pre Hoxha, just his legacy. I was there in time to leave before the 2nd mini civil war. People were just getting used to the idea they could walk on the footpaths without being arrested and the only cars on the streets were brand new prestige vehicles freshly stolen from Italy.

I know I've seen the 'Somper' ad before - IMO it doesn't get much sexier than that!!!

The same commercial-- minus the Evans info at the end, of course-- was used by Nordstrom for its end-of-season commercial in February 1990. So, apparently, it was either a generic commercial sold by a commercial producer to various fur stores nationwide; or else, and perhaps more likely, Nordstrom's own fur salons were leased to Evans Inc. back then. Whichever, it is my favorite commercial of all time!

Evans, when it ran into the abrupt fur recession of the late 1980s and early 1990s, ended up being sold to Birger Christensen. BC International, which was called Birger Christensen U.S.A. when it was bought from the parent company by a Greek billionaire, now controls most of the leased-salon fur business in the United States, as Evans Inc. once did. (BC International [http://bcintlgroup.com/] is now based in Totowa, New Jersey, west of New York City; cf., http://www.manta.com/coms2/dnbcompany_74w4bn)

Here's an interesting arbitration decision about a domain-name dispute between BC International and (the seemingly moribund) furs.com: http://www.domainstatute.com/domain-name-disputes/naf3/451135.html

Moderator's Note from Joe: Go to Youtube and search for "Fur Week" to find this clip before it is removed from the internet by the greedy ones. Ciao...

Great stuff, Joe! I hope that fur week becomes an annual tradition in NYC! Good to see an 'old school' movie from 'fur world' popping up too!

Hi,

Kumi Koda is a very popular Japanese pop artist that has performed in various fur coats and accesories. I have posted a pic in the gallery of a performance at Yokohama in June of her wearing a full-length fox fur coat - the concert was benefiting the WWF (World Wildlife Fund)!

Anyway, here are some videos of Kumi Koda performing in fur accesories:
