Golden Oldies!

Fox

Recommended Posts

Since these have become a bit on the popular side, we're making a sticky for this for now until it dies down. So for now, please post all "Golden Oldies" pics here. We're trying to keep them self contained. Thanks!

Ah fox... the joys of communication.....

Anyways.... the idea of the sticky is that all images be posted to this link, which means that they are all together. As such, I'll be transferring all the old posts to this link so that all comments etc are together for future rreference. (nothing like an easy job *grin* PB

Now that I`ve been officially "stuck" I guess now is as good a time as any to tie up a few loose ends with a few less well-known actresses who don`t really have enough fur pics to warrant a post on their own.

Anita Page

Silent star who at one point was receiving 10,000 fan letters a week ; she retired in 1933. The song "You Were Made For Me" was wriiten for her.

She and WC Fields were indeed classics. Back then, comedians did not have to swear or use filthy language to make people laugh. Look at the old "Road Shows." Red Skelton. The old Circus Clowns. When you look at them you realize the art of true comedy is going down hill fast and in some aspects close to being lost.

But Fields and West were classic, and especially when they were together. West could throw a white for stole over her shoulder, and put on that look she had, and instantly you would be thinking what she wanted you to think even before she said anything. I have always wondered what she was like in real life.

She was indeed the Collins of her time.

ALICE FAYE

For a brief period in the 30s Alice was 20th Century Fox`s biggest grossing star. She retired before the War when Betty Grable took over her mantle as THE musical actress in Hollywood but returned to the silver screen in 1978 for a cameo in , of all things , a Lassie movie.

No where near as coarse.

Then as now if you are famous you are sexy and desirable; god i wish i was famous (apart from being a mass murderer that is).

Nowadays if you are famous and your girlfriend likes you, you are a 'Five times a night' guy. If she dislikes you, you are a 'Can't get it up' guy.

The trouble is a lot of people believe this trash; I can get it up and i haven't even got a girlfriend!

PS This is spoken in jest, so please don't a)Feel sorry for me

b)Offer advice

c)Laugh at me

d)Try to sell me Viagara

Damn, I've gone off topic; again!

MAMIE VAN DOREN

I pondered long and hard before posting these since I know that pneumatic blondes aren`t to everyone`s taste. However after due consideration I decided that the ubiquitous Ms Van Doren deserved her place for a number of reasons -

1) She`s been a consistent fur-wearer for five deacdes

2) Despite being treated pretty shabbily by Hollywood she doesn`t appear to bear any grudges and seems to be enjoying life more than ever in her seventies. (For those of you unaware of her less than glittering career , she was initially signed as a potential rival to Marilyn Monroe. However , she was relegated to minor roles in pretty poor films when she refused to "play ball" with Howard Hughes ; then , when she DID start "playing the field" , she was ostracised for being an unmarried mother. You can`t win , can you!)

3) Whatever the rights and wrongs of the war in Vietnam she was the one actress who consistently went to the most remote and dangerous locations , often well away from the cameras , to put on shows for US troops.

4) As you`ll see by the last section of links she`s still modelling at the age of 75! (or 73 , depending on which date of birth you believe!!!!) I for one say more power to her!

furpunk2;

You're right about her style of blonde.

Though I never liked the style myself I always admired "Mae West". Her humor alome is infectuous and she was always self depricating.

Her pechant for fur always went straight to my ....

Great pictures.

MARION DAVIES

Sadly only remebered nowadays as the long-time mistress of William Randolph Hearst (as portrayed , much to Hearst`s alleged anger , in Citizen Kane) but a more than accomplished silent actress who made the transition into talkies despite a pronounced stutter.
